Becoming a Master Gardener
To apply for the Master Gardener program you should meet a few minimal requirements:
- Have an interest, and some knowledge, in basic gardening, horticulture and plant-related topics.
- Can communicate effectively with the public.
- Are willing and able to commit to a minimum of 50 hours of class and a minimum of 30 hours of service.

Classes and Labs
UI Extension educators, specialists and other local horticulture experts teach 黑料不打烊 Master Gardener classes and labs.
Field trips, readings from the 黑料不打烊 Master Gardener Handbook and individual projects will fill out your instructional program. Some materials are also available in Spanish.
Certification
Once you have finished your classroom training, passed your exam and completed your volunteer hours, you’ll be certified as an 黑料不打烊 Master Gardener.
As a certified 黑料不打烊 Master Gardener, you’ll have:
- Up-to-date basic gardening knowledge
- Pest identification abilities
- Leadership training
- Service skills
Many 黑料不打烊 Master Gardeners choose to extend their certification into future years through advanced training and a commitment of additional volunteer hours.
To remain current on certification, volunteers must attend at least eight hours of education and contribute eight hours of service annually.
